Common Linde Controller Failures and Root Causes
Traction Controller
- Error 1.1 / 1.2 — CAN bus fault. CAN transceiver IC damaged by ground fault or voltage surge. Truck shows "Controller not available" or "E01." Single IC replacement restores full network communication.
- Error 8.3 / 8.5 — IGBT phase U or V overcurrent. Most common serious failure on Linde E-series. IGBT thermal breakdown after 8–12 years. We replace the IGBT module, retest the gate driver, and verify phase current balance.
- Error 7.1 — battery voltage out of range. Filter capacitor develops internal leakage after 6–10 years. Causes false low-voltage shutdowns on a fully charged battery.
- Error 3.3 — motor temperature sensor fault. NTC thermistor input circuit develops an open-circuit fault. Truck reduces traction power to 60% even with a cold motor.
- Controller dead after deep discharge. Internal 12V auxiliary supply fails when battery drops below 16V. Repair: auxiliary regulator IC replacement (€5–15 component).
- Jerky driving on departure. Partial IGBT failure — elevated RDS(on). Controller detects asymmetric phase current and enters power-limited mode.
Hydraulic Controller
- Error 5.1 — pump overcurrent. Pump motor IGBT failure from contaminated oil or frequent max-load lifting.
- Erratic fork lowering. Proportional lowering valve PWM driver MOSFET partial failure — forks lower in steps.
- No lift — pump motor does not start. Hydraulic pump relay driver transistor failure. An €8 component forces a €3,200 dealer replacement.
- Reduced lift speed. DC bus voltage monitoring circuit failure — controller limits pump power to 40%.
EPS Controller
- EPS Error 12 — steering motor overcurrent. Linde EPS uses individual H-bridge MOSFETs — single MOSFET replacement possible instead of full EPS replacement (new: €1,800–2,800).
- EPS Error 14 — steering angle sensor fault. Resolver-to-digital converter (AD2S1210) fails — EPS loses absolute steering angle reference and locks out traction.
- Steering pulling to one side. Asymmetric H-bridge MOSFET degradation. Frequently misdiagnosed as a mechanical steering column fault.
Truck Management System (TMS)
- TMS display blank. Backlight LED driver IC failure (SN3350). €12–20 component repair instead of €680–1,400 TMS replacement.
- TMS touchscreen unresponsive. Capacitive touch controller IC fails after moisture condensation — common in cold-store trucks.
- Hour meter and fleet data lost. EEPROM corrupted after sudden battery disconnection. We restore data without factory reset.
- No TMS communication — all controllers show "Service". CAN bus TVS protection diode short-circuits the entire network. Single TVS diode replacement restores all controllers.
